The Sistine Chapel, Capella Sistina, is located in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City State.
It takes it's name from Pope Sixtus IV who commissioned it's construction between 1473 and 1481.
The first frescos depicted the Life of Moses and the Life of christ and completed in 1482.
Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo to do the ceiling between 1508 and 1512.
The Chapel is now the last stop on a tour of the Vatican Museums.
These photos were taken in 1978 before there was a ban on photography in the Chapel and they are very poor quality.
